Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD, causes children to have frequent arguments with parents and other authority, and refuse to comply with rules, lose their temper, feel resentful or vindictive. This disorder most often occurs in early childhood, around ages 2-3 but may also develop in teenagers as well.
Children with ODD may display several of the following symptoms:
- Has frequent temper tantrums
- Argues with adults
- Refuses to do what an adult asks
- Does things to deliberately upset or annoy others
- Always questions authority and refuses to follow rules
- Blames others for their own mistakes or misbehavior
- Easily annoyed or irritated
- Often spiteful and vindictive
